Charities Remind Your Donors About The New Tax Law

Beginning 2026, if you do not itemize deductions, for Federal tax purposes you may deduct up to $1,000 ($2,000 if filing jointly) of your cash charitable contributions to most charitable organizations (EXCEPT donor advised funds, supporting organizations or private foundations).

Noncash donations (such as clothing or stock do not qualify.)

Charities can add a simple line to all emails and letters with language such as”

“Under a new law starting 2026, donors who take the standard deduction may still be eligible for a charitable deduction for cash contributions to qualified organizations. Donor advised funds are not eligible organizations. Please consult with your tax advisor.”
