Tax Returns for Presidential Candidates & Presidents

All tax returns are private and information cannot be released by the IRS.

Presidents and presidential candidates are not required to release their tax returns.

Since the 1970s most presidents have chosen to release their returns publicly. The Tax History Project at Tax Analysts has compiled an archive of presidential tax returns. In addition, they have made available returns from recent candidates for president, including those running in party primaries. Some returns are incomplete and only contain the first 2 pages. Some returns are Federal only.

With interest in the First Primary Election in Iowa just days away, you my want to take a gander at your potential president.

Many candidates are quite wealthy. For example, Senator Warren’s tax returns show income of roughly a $1 million per year.

From 2013 to 2017, the Warrens’ joint income has been roughly $1 million a year (on one return I did see $1.6 million which included her making $1 million in business income on top of her wages as a Senator)
